    Sunny island 5048u

    Mike,

    Will this work?
Solar power on power outage ... with backup generator, 5k setup to start with.

I have two arrays, 5k each. Cut out just one 5k array. Run solar through a Sunny Island, then through Sunny boy. Power my house during the day on power outage. Then generator will come on for a few hours at night.

Maybe. I don't know how the logic in the sunny* works, but as long as your batteries can absorb the fluctuations in daytime, (Cloud, a load switches off) I've heard rumor it's supposed to work.
Problem is when your running the inverter in bi-directional mode, batteries full, and PV is working, you can have times when the PV starts boiling the battery, since there's no charge controller in that loop.
