Losses in DC-AC Converter & DC Amperage Calculation

I'm not a EE but wanted help on a couple of things:

    1) What is a typical power loss or conversion loss in a DC-AC converter and how do you factor this in when planning your electrical layout?

    2) Concerning a DC-AC inverter what is the best method to accurately calculate DC amperage on the supply side? (Assumes 12VDC but would like to know if it applies equally to 24 & 48 VDC systems)

    Thanks in advance,

Divide the load by the inverter efficiency. If you have a load of 100W and the inverter efficiency is 80% this means a load at the battery of
    100/80=125Watts

Take the load voltage say 12V and the load is 120W that would equal a 10A load at the battery. Add in inverter efficiency as in the example above and the amps jumps to 12.5A

A simple way to do it is to divide watts consumed by the item divided by volts at battery. then factor in the inverter efficiency
