I have tabbed my 150cells but there are finger marks and flux all over it. How do I clean them?
A Nail Paint Remover will do?
No.
Nail polish remover will contain acetone but may also contain other ingredients such as oil or moisturizer which could contaminate the cells.
Even pure acetone is a hazardous solvent and should not be used unless there is no alternative.
The flux which you used should also have instructions on what solvents can be used to remove it. Use the gentlest solvent on that list, preferably plain water if it will work.
Actually the flux eats into the surface of the cell a little bit so you might as well leave it. You just need to be more carefull when handling the cells. Keep your area clean. Handle cells by the edges only whenever possible.
True if you are using a proper minimally corrosive, non-conductive (rosin type), flux, as you should be. If you are using a water washable flux which leaves a residue that conducts electricity when damp, you need to remove it completely!
Well, I tried cleaning using a wet cloth. Nothing happened. Even the flux on my fingers need to washed with soap and did not get off with running water.
Should I leave it as trying to clean may cause the cell to crack.
Cells get cleaned at the factory with IPA ( isopropyl alcohol ) to remove flux residue. In use, at rooftop temperatures, it can creep and attract dirt, which will attract moisture. Moisture will destroy the cells quickly, as it makes a migration path for the metal plating over the front and back sides, to move and unplate the cells.
