PV Module installation on a curved roof

  • PV Module installation on a curved roof

    Is there anybody who has experience with a curved roof like this? The purling's are in the direction of the red lines.(1,3 meter in between) Man this means trouble for installing PV Modules. I think you must install an extra framework to to get it all in 1 plane? What do you guys think?

    Just mount them along the curve with horizontal purlins where the angle is at least 15 degrees (otherwise they won't self clean in the rain) and wire the panels so each row is its own string (if using string inverters). Could use short legs on the upper rails to use the area higher on the roof.

      Actually of I see how it's done in this picture then you create a string with panels with all a different tilt connected with one MPPT

      How does that work?

      Perhaps better to create strings horizontal. So eacht strings had just one tilt.

      What do you guys think?

            If you are installing a framed rigid solar module, it must need an extra frame. If you want a solar panel that can be bent, you can use semi-flexible solar panels, but their lifespan is shorter than glass panels, the advantage is: it can be well placed on curved surfaces.

              Strongly recommend you do NOT do this uniless you have an air-gap spacer behind them to provide some airflow. They fail pretty quickly if they are flush mounted with no way to cool the panel.

                Yes I agree with you.

                The point is that almost all inverters have per MPPT two strings input. it is almost impossible to get two strings with the same tilt per MPPT. At least not 100%.

                What would be the influence if you connect two strings with different tilts to one MPPT Tracker?

                  If you series connect panels with different orientation, at any time the panels
                  with the poorest energy output will tend to limit the the output of the others.
                  With one or 2 panels at low output, they might go into bypass and hinder
                  output instead of helping. If a couple panels are trying to put out more
                  current, the extra current will be lost though some extra voltage will occur.
