    What is better ? Number of Strings

    1 inverter 100 KW
    10 x MPPT
    20 x string inputs
    Max. Input Voltage 1100 Volt
    Start Voltage 200V
    Panel 540 Watt
    VOC Panel 49 Volts
    So we can make strings of 20 Panels

    1 String is 10,800 Watt
    So with 10 strings we have 108 KW
    That means that 10 Slots for strings will remain unused.

    My question is if this is a good idee?
    Or must we make smaller strings so we can end up with occupying more slots?

    For example string of 16 panels
    1 string 8,640 Watt
    This means 12 strings

    Or even 12 panels (we will still reach the Start Voltage 200V)
    1 string 6,480 Watt
    16 strings


    What is the best thing to do and why?

    The solution will be a trade off between inverter efficiency and cost of wiring. Inverters optimum efficiency is with DC input voltages a little higher than the peak voltage of the output AC voltage. Minimizes down conversion that way. However, this will mean more strings at lower voltages which cost more in terms of wiring and wire losses. You do the math...
