I'm just surprised they would think it is okay. I mean you would expect them to do the job right but par for the course at least this has been in my experience. This is the one time i didn't think they would screw up changing optimizers so I didn't go on the roof to supervise. Go figure after they left I noticed all the hanging wires

I think it comes down to an installer finding ways to save money which IMO is to hire non experienced people to perform the install since labor cost is much more then hardware.

Mine failed inspection because of it and had to fix their not so great work in this regard in order to pass ...

agree 100%, lazy installers is what it boils down to so I need to have them fix the issue and if they play coy i'm hoping to have the code ready.

Whatever it is, it is a good idea to forbid it.
Having wires touch the roof is a great way to cause problems down the line

Does anyone know the LA county code which states solar panel wires and optimizer wires can't be touching the roof.


My city itself has stricter rules but I'm sure LA county has some as well.
