    Sunny Boy SMA converter error

We have a Sun Power System with a SMA Sunny Boy Model SB5000TL-US-22 inverter, The inverter is issuing an error message and is not producing. The are several messages when rebooting , one message shows a version no then update complete, then the SN number and another number starting with UL and now it says Electr Arc detected, The second message is check DC converter and the red warning light is on. I thought it may be a firmware update but Sun Power said there were no recent firmware updates. . The system is less than two years old. Anyone have a similar problem with a Sunny Boy?

Either you posted this same issue before, on another board, or this is becoming a trend with SMA.

It IS detecting some sort of Arc Fault, and you need to check all the DC wiring. If you have 2 parallel strings of panels on it, you can disable one string, and see if the other works or not, and narrow the checking down to one string. BUT if you are not equipped to handle high voltage DC (strings are around 500V and will arc weld easily) this is a job for a professional.
