    Solar and generator switch help

I have a generator and solar setup.

I'm trying to work out what type of switch I need and what it's called for the following:

I would like a switch on the wall that I have input from the generator and input from the solar which goes to my fuse board. All will be from the AC power.
So gen is AC and solar will be from the AC side of the inverter.
So I can either select generator power or solar power to run my shed from.

I was looking at 2 pole isolation switch but I'm not sure.

Anyone point out what I need prehaps from eBay? Or point me in the right direction.

Hi & welcome. I'm not sure what you have
Is your solar a Grid Tie, or does it have batteries ? 12V 24V 48v ??

does your inverter have a set of terminals for the generator to connect to ?

Ifs 24v 2kw solar setup off grid into a cheap charge controller until I get funds for a good quality one.

I don't want the generator connected to the solar side of the setup just incase.

I looked at a 2 pole 2 throw switch but I'm not sure?

A double pole, double throw switch will work fine. You may also want to choose one with a center off position so that you can disconnect both for maintenance or prevent a rapid switching between the two.
Do you want motors, etc. to try to coast through with possible problems from the phase changing or do you want to let everything coast to a stop before restarting?

It is also common to use two circuit breakers with a mechanical interlock that prevents both from being on at the same time.

Can you explain the motor comment and a way around it?
Not sure what a mechanical interlock is. But I'll do a bit of googling

For the generator - google "generator transfer switch interlock kit" These are metal frames that fit over brand specific breaker panels, so if one breaker is on, the other is forced off.

Its just a cheesy way of making sure you can't power the breaker without disconnecting power from the meter. Its almost like the newer cars that won't let you start the car when the motor is already running. Its just a piece of sheet metal that slides up and down on a rivet or bolt.
