    SMA Sunny Webbox configuration problem

Anyone have experience configuring a SMA Sunny Webbox?

I just received my Sunny Webbox with bluetooth and two bluethooth piggy-back plus boards for my two Sunnyboy inverters(5000us and 6000us). I installed them and can bring up the Sunny Webbox web page and see both inverters, but they have a padlock next to each inverter and no data is displayed. The Webbox user manual (page 34) suggests that the device password does not match the plant password and offers a procedure to fix the problem. I have followed the procedure, including resetting the device and I cannot get the padlocks to go away. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks,
    Randy

Have you tried communicating with the inverters using the Sunny Explorer software from a bluetooth-equipped computer? That is what is needed to change the password at that device (not at the Webbox) back to the plant password.

Have you selected a System ID other than 1 (or 0)? Communication may be limited if you leave the SystemID on Webbox and piggyback boards set to the default of 1.

      Thanks for the reply!

I have not tried to communicate with the inverter directly with the sunney explorer as I do not have a bluetooth interface for a PC, but, It sounds like its worth getting one.

I have set the System ID to 4 on each piggyback and the Webbox. There is a blue light on each piggyback and a blue light for signal strenght on the Webox.

The WebBox user manual seems to desribe the problem accurately(p34), but the proceeudre to resolve it does not work (or I am doing it wrong).

It describes how to reset it on the Webbox. It does not describe how to reset it on the Inverters (which is what takes Sunny Explorer).
Paraphrase: "...if the device shows a lock icon,... reset the password on the device...."
I suspect that instead of using the default password on all devices you could also set it to the same private password on all devices.

You can get a USB-connected Bluetooth dongle pretty cheaply. Just hope that the software recognizes it.

Inetdog, thanks again for the reply. I see what you mean. I also found in another manual that states exactly what you are saying. All this equipment is brand new, I just reset the password on the webbox back to the default in hopes that the inverters default to the same password. Maybe tomorrow, when the sun comes up, it will communicate? I ordered a blue tooth adapter for my notebook and will configure the password through the sunny explorer. Thanks a bunch for your help.

It came up today working withg factory default passwords!

Now that I am talking with the inverters, I think I can change the password from the Webbox interface. Afterwhich, I should be able to change the Webbox to match and be up and running with non-default passwords.

Thanks for all of your help!
