    Hello

I am determined to introduce PV into my life. Already have an energy efficient house, super insulated, high efficiency appliances, lighting all CF transitioning to LED. I have to work through my intense hatred of lead acid batteries...

Here to learn and someday give back.

    Cheers,
    Lyle

    Welcome.

There are some Nickel-Iron batteries (NiFe) but they are very expensive, and last forever.

Lyle if you go off-grid you have chosen to do 2 things.

Pay 10 times more for electricity
Emit more emissions than a coal fired power plant.

It is a loose loose scenario.

          Start up surge problem

I am trying to power my workshop with solar power. It is all working well but a couple of my tools have such a start up surge that they kick off the inverter. Any Suggestions?

I have a 3000 watt inverter that like I shared is doing well with lights, and most tools. In particular my air compressor always kicks out the inverter.

Yeah you need a larger inverter sized at least 5 times more than your compressor motor is rated for.
