    newbie ...pulsating volt meter

I recently made the typical 12v 36 cell 60 watt panels. I added 1 to my amorphous harbor freight 45 watt system and switched to a 30 amp charge controller. I now get a pulse in the volt meter which is wired in line between the panels and the controller. Is this normal? Also I would like to know how to test the amperage correctly. Thanks to all in advance.

    What kind of charge controller?

What is the HF panel spec?

What is the other panel spec?

As the batteries get full, the charge controller switches the charge current off and on to prevent overcharge. This is what you may be seeing. Next time, throw a large load on the batteries, and I bet the pulse goes away.

Which Spec do you need? The controller im using is a sunforce. Its all too hard to find prts up here in the northeast. Granted I'm not in the best place for solar but summer is around the corner. So today im gioing to brave the 32dedgrees and place a few more homemade panels.

The more specs, the better the answer. (electrical specs, model # of the controller)

I now have 5 18v homemade panels polycrystaline 3x6 times 36 at .5 v each and 1.8 watts each. tested they put out a good 20 volts each (in ideal cond.) and 3 15w amorphous panels from HF which i dont have specs on (tossed with the box im afraid).THe controller must be the source of the pulsation cuz just like you said i put a bigger load on my inverter and it calmed right down .not to mention its an auto voltmeter that maxes out at 16v so when it does pulse it sounds like a woodpecker. Should i move the location of my meter? or just get a better one?
