    Releation between Solar irradiation and actual PV output power

    Hi Experts

    I do research on PVs and having difficulty to understand how to calculate actual power output of PVs.

    Now, following NASA site (http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov) provides solar irradiation data in monthly average data in KWh/m2/day and if I use a PV which has following specs. How can I calculate the PV output power and what if the solar radiation is higher than 1000 W/m2(STC condition) for a single month , would it produce more than the peak output power ?

    Pmax: 318W
    Efficiency: %19
    Rated V : Vmpp: 54.7 V
    Rated I : Impp :5.82 A
    Short Circuit I : Isc : 6.20A

    Generally, assume you are only going to get 80% of Pmax from an installed PV @ 100% insolation. That's a good ballpark figure to start with. Less sun = less power, but mfg's don't publish that data.

      The god ones do Mike and it is in the form of a graph, IR graph.

        looking at them Sunpower modules there Sem.
        I hope you looked at module efficiency and not cell efficiency. Two different animals.
        To get a good idea about what the system will produce choose your modules and inverter and enter the information into PVWatts.
        It would be very rare to get 100% or more power from a module. There are a few exceptions though. a very high tilt on an array in front of a lake or snowfield tilted to be between the zenith of the sun and the reflecting surface in very cold conditions may get more than rated output but most will never see this condition.
