    Hi J.P.M.

Thanks for the feedback, it's been alot of work going into (like a part time job for me) this not just on my end but for installers I've contacted too (6 home site visits). The final price (original quotes started at 2.90/watt out of pocket) I got was the result of a bit of competing bids between 3 great installers over a few weeks who had the bandwidth for my project.

I found nearly all bids to be very helpful and honest which helped me narrow down the best deal for me in my area (your posts and comments on some threads helped a great deal too - thx). For others in my area interested in purchasing - I'm glad to help share my experience and details.
    Kind Regards,

        Also in Maryland

After a lot (3 months) of research, 6 separate quotes, 3 re-quotes, and a monster spreadsheet (for ROI), I was able to come in at 2.55 per watt installed with a regional installer who has done hundreds of installs

        Joe,

Congratulations on your system. It sounds like with research, patience, and good negotiating skills you got a great system at a great price. I am in Western Maryland (west of Frederick) and have initially gotten higher cost/watt quotes. Did you find one installer came in much lower, or did each gradually concede in pricing?

I found myself first meeting with several installers to first weed out the outliers, and try to narrow down system size and material variables. The second go-round has been about price, but I'm not getting too far. Any other advice would be appreciated.

        Bob

            Hi Joe,

I am also in Maryland and have been doing some research on this for a 10 KW system. I would love to get some information from you. I don't think you are in Montgomery County from the tax credit you mentioned (MoCo has absolutely nothing for Solar installation as far as I know).

Sorry for resuscitating an old thread, but I will shoot you a PM shortly.

            Thanks.

            Shawn

Edit: I am unable to PM you as I have less than 10 posts. Could you PM me? My e-mail ( is not allowed)

            Thanks.

Mod note, you can still receive a PM, but the poster could just tell you and everyone else who his installer is just have to reference them by their www.solarreviews.com page if they dont or wont do that leads me to believe they may be on the screw your buddy plan

                Hi Joe,

I am new to this forum. Already learned a lot from here in the past couple of days. I plan to install a solar system of about 18kw size in the near future, and have interviewed 5 installers. I live in Howard county. However, the quotes I got are ranged from $3.6 to $4.9/watt. The panels include LG, solarworld, Hyundai, trina, sunpower. All come with SolarEdge inverters. It looks like my quotes are way higher than the deal you got.
Just like Stallhorn, I would love to get some information from you as well.
I can't PM you either as I only registered for this forum. Could you please email me?
                Many thanks!

                      Thanks inetdog, I just placed a review for my installer at the link below;
Scott and his team delivered a first class turn key system for me. From sizing to design, selecting panels (Poly vs Mono), selecting inverters (SolarEdge vs Enphase), answering questions about tilt, orientation, performance, system life and more, Scott wa

Lots of good companies out there but it's a journey to get to the destination and have the assurance that you made a good decision. At the time of this posting, my system has been running great with no surprises and on track for a 6 year (or less) payback.

So here’s a six month record on my system performance so far.
I did a lot of upfront work estimating what my production would be and happily have not been surprised by the production so far. I realize that most of this was really guess work and any estimate I came up with is really dependent on the weather (Maryland is very variable – not like CA where most every day is a sunny one). This forum was and continues to be a great source of information.
To those looking for a new system, I suggest that your try to find out as much as you can about panels, inverters, systems and do your best to come up with a return on investment expectation before you commit to purchasing a system.

Thanks for all of your helpful information here. I tried to look at the file you attached, but it is hard to read. Would you mind PM'ing me. I'd be very appreciative.
