  • Hello from Carlsbad, CA

We live in 92010, 3.25 miles from the beach as the crow flies. Our roof is 138 degrees south east with no shade.

I've had two quotes that both seem very high compared to what I'm seeing on this website.

I'm looking to get about a 3.5 KW system. I have a few specific questions that I'll try to post in the appropriate threads. I've spent about an hour on this site and already I think it has saved me money and headaches. Thank you! Looking forward to getting to know some of these helpful people.

Joe is it often cloudy where you live?

I'm a couple of blocks from the ocean in Pt. Loma and it is quite overcast here.

But my mom's house in La Mesa is the opposite.

Did they give you a bunch of numbers to look at in terms of how much electric would be generated?

Why not post the quotes, leaving out company names, we can look at it in terms of $/W at least for a start.

Thanks Albert! We are usually outside the coastal fog influence. Up on top of a hill so we often are looking down at the fog.

Here is one of the quotes it seems high compared to what everyone else is showing on this site:

      3.510 Kw system - 5,670 Dc Watts
Average monthly 1st year production approximately 476 KWhr per month
      13 Solar World 270 W "protect" Panels – 30 year warranty
13 Enphase Micro Inverters – 25 year warranty
      1 Comprehensive monitoring software

      Total Price $13840
      Federal Tax Credit -$4,152
      CSI REBATE CHECK -$499
      Net Investment $9,189

I would like to finance it but they want to charge me an additional 10% to finance so I'm looking at other options. Maybe a credit union or local bank.

      Thanks again for your time,

      Joe

Joe can you confirm for me, the way I calculate this is

        $13,840/3510W = $3.94/W

That sounds like a pretty good price from what I am seeing here.

Is my math wrong or can you link me to people posting about much better prices?

Lots of us guys from San Diego on here, unlike me most of them are quite knowledgeable.

          Joe:

Question: Is the 5,670 Dc Watts meant as 5,670 kWhrs./yr. ?

Comment: Given the system size, $3.94/D.C. Watt may be in the ballpark. If it was me, I'd get a couple more quotes FWIW. Caveat Emptor.
