I would be interested to know how many of the people talking about what may or may not happen have actually used 50hz items on 60 hz and vise versa ? And what results they actually got,not what results that you think might happen or what you have read may happen.

The reason I asked as I live in 2 different countries, obviously not at the same time, and use electric tools of almost every type, freezer ,refrigerator and air compressor and ,tv and DVD etc and Top end audio equipment. I have been doing this now for last 12 yrs,im still waiting for a problem, mabe it will happen one day, but by then mabe the item just wore out anyway.

The only items that dont cope very well are anything with a clock in it and the times for microwave cooking, but thats not really a problem you just have to remember the differences.

I did have some problems with ancient transformer cell phone chargers but there are none in use today.

We have quite a number of motors we inherited that are designed for 60 Hz running on 50

      1) plan on the reduction in speed (1750 rpm to 1450 rpm for example)
      2) realize you are working within the safety margins of the motor
      3) all safety devices are reset to new values

When we are pushing motors too hard in a vacuum swing pressure adsorption unit (8 numbers of 700 kW motors) we have to watch what the electrical types call 'thermal content' - projecting overheating

Other parts of the same plants we bought from Hyundai in Korea (the plants were never completed in Korea) have motors of several thousand kW that are being used on 50 Hz in the same manner.

In that case i better buy a new charge controller i have in mind is the MPPT 60-150 CC unit. Is this unit capable to cater the 2kW PV @ 24Volts?

I have look for another model Conext SW it will be available this April. Capacity from 2.5kW- 4.0kW

@Sunny and Naptown thanks for every thing.

I can tell you for most things that do not have a motor, and the voltages match not many problems at all. Now motors is another story. Motors built for 60 hz run slower at 50 hz.

I think everyone knows that a motor designed for 60hz is going to run slower on 50hz.. But on motors you yourself have actually observed that were 60 now on 50 or 50 now on 60. What "bad" effects happened. ?

I have over the years used, hand electric saws, drills, grinders,Air compressors and I dont notice any real difference in performance. If overheating is occuring its not noticible.Durability does not seem to be effected.

Same goes for fridges and freezers,. Opperated many so far in over 10 yrs no ill effects. I have noticed on some fridge compressors they are marked 60/50hz.I believe that the manufacturers make them that way even if given an "official" 60 or 50hz rating.so only one motor/compressor had to be made for as many markets as possible.

I personally think its something that you can worry about for nothing, But Iwould like to hear others actual personal experience.

Not so interested in heavey industry situations only home or small workshop experience.
