  • Running a 1/2hp submerge well pump once a week

    Hi,

2 years ago I converted to city water and kept the well to run the outside hose bibs and a irrigation system.
I live in Indiana and last year during our drought used the system twice a week for 1-2 hours at a time.
Since the system is not used very much I wanted to run the pump off of a 220v converter and battery set up with 1 solar panel keeping the battery top off. I have access to a used ~120 watt panel, so I would need to buy a monitor/charger and converter. Does sound doable or would it make more since just to run it off the main feed.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Run it off the mains feed - far cheaper.

If you want solar and have any kind of state/local incentives you can do a grid tie to lower your overall electric bill but use the grid for big loads and as your battery.
