Hi all. I am completely new to this forum so sorry if this has been covered somewhere.
I have a house in cyprus with a pool which in the summer is fine but out of season it's to cold to use.
I have been pondering the idea of heating by solar and my idea is to pump the water from the pool onto the top of my pergola (about 3.5 might) then use black hose as a collector and return to the pool.
I do not want to spend a fortune but would like to know what kind of pump to use and what size cell I would require. I don't have to shift the water to fast but just continually whist the sun shines.
Could be that the whole thing is not feasible but I am sure someone on here will know.
Thanks in advance.
Dennis.
Well, the general idea of solar thermal heating is a good one, and the details and practicality of the design will vary depending on what the outside air temperature will be (whether you will need to put a transparent cover over the coils to reduce heat loss, for example.)
As for the pump, to get started at least you will probably find it easiest to use a mains powered small pump that is rated to handle the chemicals routinely used in swimming pool water.
If the idea works out, you may want to consider solar PV power for the pump, letting it run only while the coils are producing heat.
You will need to shut the flow off when the coil temperature is to few degrees above the pool temperature.
If you already use a circulating pump for filter, etc. then electrically operated diversion valves may be all that you need.
If the temperature will get below freezing, you will need a way to drain the system, either automatically or when the pool season is over.Leave a comment:

Lots of ideas there about pool heating.
Yes your idea will work but will need a fair amount of pipe and area to work.Leave a comment:
