  • Running a fan on solar without draining power.

Am located in tropical part of Africa dependent wholly on solar. I run lights, food freezer, laptop, on solar. I need to run a fan also, but before purchasing need advice. It will be a desk fan (not a large standing fan, or a ceiling fan). I will want to run it at night-time for 3 or 4 hours. What Wattage should I be looking for. Any idea where I might source (online) a suitable fan (I am in Europe at the moment).

Endless Breeze fan, by Fantastic vent, runs directly from 12v and has 4 speeds, as I recall 10 to 36 watts depending on setting.

At my 12V camp I built a couple of these with 3 or four computer fans. My wife loves it for sleeping. A lot of air and not much power. On the bedroom fan I added a NANO micro, only $3 that runs the fan for an hour and then ramping down in speed for another 20 minutes before shutting off. She is asleep by then and temperature have lowered.

        RoadPro makes a 12V 10" fan that has 2 speeds and requires < 10W.
