    What we do is use dehumidifiers. All the energy they use is returned as heat in the house, and you simply dump the water outside. I just dried 3 loads in the house with about 12 hours running on a pair of used 50 pint units. I keep the house at ~50% Relative Humidity ( RH) in the winter. This seems to be the best for health and comfort.

    EDIT: In the summer and whenever we don't need heat I try to dry on the clothesline outside
