problem with charging or overload ??? tristar 45 controller ?

    Hello all
i have a small scale offgrid system, its build with
    2X190W (40V 8A) system
    Morningstar tristar 45 +RTS sensor
    2X12X2 (24V) trojan tmx24 batteries.

the system is up and running for the last 2 days. now i check the system and the controller in the morning, the tristar is blinking green and when i open the battery bay i can hear a noise of water inside the battery, when touching the batteries i dont feel that there hot but there a smell of a little bit of acid.

testing with multimeter , the controller is pusing 28V into the batteries even when its in blinking mode.

i be greatful for any advice!
    thanks

Is the the Tristar MPPT, or the PWM ? What voltage is it configured for ?

I don't know what the " 2X12X2 (24V) trojan tmx24 batteries " means or what the battery capacitys are, please spell it out:

    Battery = __ V _____ah
    batteries in parallel ___
    batteries in series __

I'm assuming these are flooded batteries, have you checked to see if distilled water needs to be added to bring them to the proper level?

PV : 2X190W (40V 8A) 8A does not seem like much, but maybe it's all miswired and you should shut this all down till we figure out what is happening, when you smell acid fumes, things are not right.

thank u mike for the answer

Is the the Tristar MPPT, or the PWM ? What voltage is it configured for ? PWM

configure to work on 24V, but im not sure i got right the dip on the controller

here is the link for the battery
      12V - 85H

      batteries in parallel - 2
      batteries in series - 2

total making 24V system with 2X2 series

i checked with multimeter and the system shows right flow plus to plus minus to minus

      thanks again for your help

You got me worried now Mike. My system behaves just as he describes. Mine has been up and running for a year. We do have different C/C's. Anytime a FLA battery is charging it bubbles and gasses. This is normal FLA battery charging behavior.

Sounds normal to me. At 28 volts indicated the CC is in charge mode. When a FLA battery charges it will fizz like a good glass of champagne and is normal.

As I have said thousands of times on here voltage does not tell you much about the state of charge on a battery. Now if you read 23 volts on a 24 volt system you got problems, but the only way to tell what is really going on is with a lab quality temperature corrected hydrometer.

A volt meter can only tell you what is going on with the battery disconnected from everything and rested for 4 to 6 hours. That is not practical with a working solar system.
