    Schneider charge / controller

    I am trying to charge my gel battery pack with a gene.
    I have a Schneider MPPT 60 / 150 charge / controller.
    Do I need to reset anything for charging to occur?

    It must be set for your type of battery

    and what is a gene ? Generator ? A generator will not work with a 150vdc MPPT charge controller.

      Ok I shall set it to Gel battery. Gene is generator.
      I was sold the sytem and advised a generator would work as a backup to the PV panels

        The generator will need an inverter-charger to convert AC to DC to charge the battery unless your generator produces DC directly, which is very rare and in any case, wouldn't be using your MPPT charge controller.

        So if your generator generates AC, you will have:

        Generator -> Inverter/Charger -> Batteries

        If your generator generates DC you will have:

        Generator -> Batteries

        In all cases, you'll have to check voltage and charging amps to match your battery capacity.

          Most generators with a 12V output, have limited power, only a couple amps, which would take hours.

          With a generator, get an automotive battery charger $, instead of a expensive inverter/charger$$$ Make sure the charger, whatever it is, can be set to your battery type

            You have the Schneider charge controller. Do you also have a Schneider inverter, either the Conext, or XW series? Schneider controls battery charging through the inverter, so you simply wire your generator into the ACin2 terminals, and you'll get charging. The caution though is that the default setting, at least for the XW is 140A, so you will need a system control panel (SCP) to adjust the charging rate to the size of your generator.
