    What charge controllers and devices can do this? Shy of just placing a voltage display in front of a camera, what charge controllers or devices allow you to do this remotely? I found a product by Webrelay but it's a little more geek oriented than what I think I can handle. I need something more layperson friendly. I am will to change charge controllers if needed. I only need to monitor, not control.

    Enphase microinverters allow you to access AC and DC voltage, among other things. See:

    I don't know about SMA or Fronius. APsystems does not give me mains AC or panel DC voltage.

        After some digging, I found a device made by Tycon power systems.

        Similar to Webrelay but looks a bit more user friendly with waaaaaayyyy more options and a lower price.

        Going to use it to start a generator based on battery bank voltage and will allow the remote monitoring of current, temperature and voltage. Should be a fun little project.

          be VERY careful with remote/auto start gensets. Add enough logic in to handle a failure to start, crank, choke low oil, low fuel (you don;t want a loaded genset to die from fuel, the residual heat will gook the alternator without a cool down period) and you approach what a AGS module costs.
          And the fires caused by Mr Rat building a home while it's unattended

            Good tips and will do.

            This will overlay (maybe) a homemade remote start system (using a handheld remote) that has been in use now for 6 years. It's a Yamaha 3000ISEB.

            Low oil protection is already built into the genset. My system has a timer to prevent overcrank and operate the automatic choke.

            My hope is the Tycon box will allow removal of the overcrank timer and just use the built in timing functions of the Tycon box. The decider will be if the Tycon box continues timing and activation functions even when internet connection is lost.

            I'll monitor fuel level and control run time via the Tycon box.

            The whole apparatus will be inside an old 60KW genset case that we removed the engine and generator from which will be around 50 feet from the structure.

            Fuel supply will only be 27 gallons or so. The genset will only need to operate when the cabin is occupied to charge batteries after they are depleted and on winter days when the cabin is unoccupied and the 2700 watt array can't keep the batteries topped up from security camera draw.

              My final solution was a remote mini PC wired directly to the batteries along with a hotspot. The new charge controller (EPEVER) allows web monitoring via the solarstation client and is hooked directly to the PC. The Tycon box is just accessed via web browser.

              Remote desktop was the easiest solution and is "future proof" in regards to using 3rd party apps and hosting services to look at stuff.
