  • 10Gauge wire OK for this install

    Hey all,

Wondering if I can stick with 10 Gauge with my small off grid build

4 x 260 watt panels (CanadianSolar CS6P-260P) connected in parallel

Need about 75' from the 4-1 panel connection to the MPPT L60 that I will be using.

Should I move up to 8 Gauge for that 75' or just stick with the 10 gauge?

    Regards

4 panels in parallel will yield close to 40A and 10ga is only rated for 30A.

Have you considered placing the panels in series and using a MPPT controller to save on the cost of copper wire for that long run ?

Not to mention the cost of the combiner/fusing required for 4 "strings"

Can you specify your battery voltage, and give a more detailed ID of the controller you have? I suspect you may have one of the numerous FAKE MPPT controllers out there. Using one with the wrong voltage battery, and it's likely to be destroyed!
