so i want to use a DC cooler that uses 4 amps. I use a 12v system. I want to put the cooler in the kitchen and my battery bank is on the total opposite end of the house. Its about 40-45 feet. What gauge wire should i use?

I'd put at least 10AWG, 12V sucks. -
since I can't decide how critical your fridge is take a look: https://www.bluesea.com/resources/1437

Please note the chart is for 12V circuit, higher voltage makes things much easier: 3% voltage drop at 12V is only 0.36V while at 120V it is 3.6V. With the same current and relative power loss you could go x10 the distance or have about x3 times smaller wire diameter for the same distance. I'm not even talking about price difference and choices between 12V world of appliances and AC 120V. OTOH if all you ever need is to connect existing 12V fridge to the existing 12V system that's the chart.Comment

If not then the answer is 8 AWG. You can get a 100 foot roll for around $60 to $70
