  • Schneider SW4048 warning

For those of you with a Schneider SW4048 inverter make sure you update your firmware before you use your inverter with a genset (or grid input). Mine bit the dust exactly as described in the this link:

    http://lists.re-wrenches.org/piperma...16/092409.html

Schneider sent out a free Combox and updated firmware this fall but neglected to include anything about why the firmware should be updated or what could happen if it wasn't updated. I didn't update mine and paid the price. Schneider said I was supposed to receive a phone call about the issue but I never did.

Now I must state that Schneider has bent over backwards for me to make this right. Just posting this so other people don't fry their inverter.

Wow, that's a whopper ! Thanks for keeping us posted
In rare instances this quality issue could result in smoke and combustive material exiting through the ventilation openings here's the webpage link, and click on Downloads to get the latest firmware

The new firmware has the following release notes:

"added additional AC overload protection (F65) triggers"
"added 4ms delay when transfer from grid to invert mode"

Mine blew when I turned off the breaker on my diesel genset. Wife was doing laundry at the time. I'm guessing it is just a power supply capacitor as it would still power up but would give a fault when I went into invert mode.

It had a small fire inside and black smoke came out the fan vents.

I'm guessing they are fixing more than firmware because they have pulled these off the market and Schneider has a 120 day lead time on supplying a new one.

I'll be installing an XW5548 in a couple months.

I wonder if the XW6048 model has the same issue? I plan to be installing one in the next few months.

my guess above is the "4ms delay" is the work around. Without that that delay, they must have had some issues when switching back from Gen to inverter mode.

Mine's been working great with generator for 6 years. I think it was a model specific bug with the SW
( and I've done several FW updates over the years )

The tech dept at Schneider has assured me that there is no issue with the XW series of inverters. I think my XW5548 should be rock solid. It weighs 56 more lbs than the SW4048 and has a 60a transfer relay vs 30a. It has a five year warranty vs two years. All that for only $2,200 more
