Blue sea disconnect .,

i have a combiner box with a disconnect option therefore I'd only need a blue sea disconnect to keep my inverter and charge controller (MS mppt60) off while I water my batteries or do other maintenance to my system , nonetheless which of the two disconnects will I need ?

There is no reason to disconnect anything to water the batteries. To answer your question you DO NOT WANT any of the E-SERIES as they are Selector Switches to select 2 or more battery banks online. You want the M-SERIES which is ON/OFF. Which model you select depends on if your system is grounded or not.

One more thing bothers me. Why do you have a combiner box? How many parellel strings of panels are you using and how many in series in each string.

i wanted a simple way to make sure all power was off while I removed a couple of lugs that often got in my way when attempting to water my batteries ,, and I'm upgrading my panels, i originally had four and was using an 3 sets of mc4y connectors but now i'm at 5 panels and on the verge of purchasing another one .,


back to the m-series , so I'd simply connect my inverters plus and minus ,, then my charge controllers plus and minus and from there I'd be able to power them both off simultaneously ?

My system isn't grounded, and i had HIS "m-Series Mini Dual Circuit Battery Switch - Red - 6010" model in mind ,, so what are you thoughts? i just need to keep my inverter & charge controller off while updating or performing light maintenance, by HIS grace !

So are you telling us you have the panels wired in Parallel with a MPPT controller?

Why on earth are you panels in parallel when you have a MorningStar 60 amp MPPT controller.? You are throwing money away and wasting power.

FUBAR, makes no difference what battery voltage you are running. Even at 12 volts the last thing you want is parallel panels with a MPPT controller. The other thing you do not want is Prime Number of panels except 1 or 3. You have pissed away a lot of money and loosing a lot of power.

I bet you a dollar you used Expensive Battery panels. You have completely defeated the purpose of using a MPPT controllers. You spent a fortune on battery panels, combiners, fusing, panel racking, and loosing power you should not have to do. Now you want to buy switches that are not needed, nor should they be used.

Other than the above, you know that the usual sequence when switching things around is to make sure the battery is switched to the controller first, and the panels *last*. If you do it backwards, or switch thing in so that the panels are the first thing the controller sees, many will attempt to be safe with what it thinks are zero-volt, totally dead batteries.

In order to be safe, they controller may refuse to function, or latch into a permanent float charge algo even if you do switch in the batteries later, until you shutdown and reconnect in the proper sequence.

Although this really doesn't help your weird setup, but it may remove at least one variable.
