After reading the guy post about a home office off grid i offer the post about useing laptop with a protable printer and scanner and since i use apple laptop with access at my place in the southwest area of the AZ that is completely off grid in the area where it at

plus given the basic fact that when i looked at the computer needs at my place i chose a laptop over a desktop with some basic travel items that could be run off 12.volt power souce

High hank2222, yes, power efficient laptops can be useful, but in the real world, typically only give a few hours of productive use between charges. Please don't take my 'sometimes sarcastic' sense of humor (example, my previous post) the wrong way.

I did not take the wrong way about the post ..i layed out my idea about why a off grid office should use laptop in there places ...

The nice thing about apple laptop is there super long life battery battery system and i get about 6 hours of battery useage out of the laptop battery with the unit pluged into the cabin power supply it can last as long i have power in the battery bank ..

I design my computer needs around the fact that i can use it at the cabin or on the road in my line of work and now with a apple ipad add to the package i have a complete all round set up for use in my line of work and most of the time it can be in a hotel room or a place where i have power and desk to do my work ..

Now, that is sounding like an advertisement for the local fruit and veg market!!

          I prefer oranges to apples!

I have good friend who led me over to the dark side of apple computers after paying out $700.oo dollars to have my computer debug and upgrade with new software and hardware to make it so virus could not shut it down and a week after getting it back from the greek squad it happened again and that when she took me to a local apple store and i have been sold on apple computer every since then ..

Plus given the basic facts that the apple ipad is a device that can do about 90.percent of the things i need done withou haveing to fire up the laptop ..

So i have been on the dark side where is milk and cookies for apple computers user

The simple fact when it comes to battery life is it makes little difference which operating system is used on specific hardware, OSX, windows and Linux will give very similar results on the same hardware with the same battery when used in the same way, the exceptions to this are minimum.

Your Mac book pro uses x86 hardware available for any of the above mentioned OS's
The main differences in battery charge life will be battery capacity and usage, apples hardware is nothing special.

I understand the windows virus point you mention, but apple's OSX is not the best OS to use to avoid that, and this is not the forum for that discussion.

Plus the things come from the evil guy Steve Jobs.

My first two PCs (1980's) were Apple and since then nothing - certainly not a telephone or tablet.

For 400W 7*24 solar array, 4 105Ah battery is not enough. You need a total of 800Ah battery, that's 8 105Ah battery. 15*80W panles would fully charge these battery in a day with 8 hours' sunlight.
