"Farmers have 30 days from the day an egg is laid to get it to stores. Then, the stores have another 30 days to sell the eggs. The USDA recommends a maximum of 5 weeks in your refrigerator before you discard your eggs. What does this all boil down to? On April 1, you could be eating an egg that was laid on Christmas."

We raise our own chooks (as they say down under). We just leave 'em out on the kitchen counter. Don't even bother refrigerating them 'till after we wash off the poop (normally a week or two). WARNING: I'd never do this with a store bought egg.
That is most enlightening and disturbing. Thanks for the info.

What I was eluding to was that some people use to experiment with cooking eggs in a microwave. They didn't have a clue as to how much energy is released when the shell finally cracks open. Very messy.

Note that the US is one of the few places that sells eggs refrigerated - I believe most of the world, like here in the UK, doesn't.
