Water from dehumidifier

    Water from dehumidifier

    Hello,
    i know/heard that one can use the water from dehumidifier or air condition to the fill batteries as this water is de-ionized (or destilled or both).
    But does anyone follow that way for long time and does he/she see any fault ?

    The problems is, the water will have aluminum oxide from the cooling fins of the dehumidifier. And it will be dusty with all the gunk that blows thru.

    You could strain it and then test it with a $15 meter

      Water the plants with the condensate. They're already growing in dirt.

      BTW, distilled and deionized are somewhat similar but not the same.

        At risk of derailing the thread, do you think the water you buy in the store in a bottle called distilled is boiled and collected?

        Watched an episode of how it was made a long time ago that showed the water being filtered through reverse osmosis and then put in jugs as distilled. I have since searched for that and can't find that episode anywhere. I have trouble thinking that for $.88 a gallon, I get water that has been boiled and recollected. I could be completely wrong.

        I also just looked at the fins and coils on my dehumidifier and they are so dusty I am surprised anything condenses on them.

          DI done right , is what I use in my batteries . I test each batch of water before I use it. I failed a batch last month, and used it for the generator radiator.

          The labels on the bottle at the store are pretty specific. Distilled is condensed steam. DI is filtered, run thru Reverse Osmosis and filtered again, can be very clean too.

            What level of water purity is safe to use it for batteries?

              The cleaner the water, the longer the battery life. Every batch of bad water you add, the impurities stay and the battery and concentrate when you add more.
              If at year one, you add 5ppm water monthly, year two starts off with 60ppm in the battery already, from all the doses of 5ppm you put in. If it's a single $120 battery no major loss, but if it's a large off grid bank of 24, 2V cells, that's $9,000 of trashed battery from bad water
