    Understsanding 2v 2000ah batteries

    Hi guys,
I came across a 2v 2000ah battery with 16 terminals, ie 2 sets of negatives and 2 of positive. How do I connect it parallel to get 2v and in series to get high voltage? And what ah will it give me in both instances?

Are you talking about one set of 8 negatives and one set of 8 positives, or do you really mean two sets of 4 positives each and two sets of 4 negatives each?

If it really consists of 8 completely independent cells (not guaranteed), then you can connect them in series (+ of one to - of the next until you have a string with only one + and one - still unconnected. Be very careful not to form a closed loop!!!) to get 16 volts, 250 AH(not very useful) or in series-parallel to get 4 volts 1000AH, or 8 volts 500AH.

None of those combinations will match common inverters or charge controllers, so a practical application would be something like 6 of them to get 12 volts at a ridiculously high 2000AH rating (or 24 volts 1000 AH, or 48 volts 500 AH), or just three of them to get 12 volts, 1000AH (or more practically 24 volts 500 AH, or 48 volts 250 AH.)

These are really intended to be used with paralleling bus bars to form the desired voltage battery pack out of 2 volt elements.

If you really meant a total of 4 sets of 4 terminals with each group of four closely spaced, you may not want to go to more than a two segment configuration to produce a 4 volt 1000AH battery. Trying to do anything but a parallel connection with closely spaced terminals is asking for an accident. And that size battery can produce a really impressive arc if shorted. (Wrench melting impressive.)
