    18kW for the win!

It finally happened! After having our solar architecture with battery backup now for over 3 years, WE HAD A (substantial) POWER OUTAGE!!! Woo-HOO!! We have a 13.2kWh GENERAC solar architecture with an 18kW battery backup. Snow storm hit last night, knocked the neighborhood power out; without pause, our home just kept going. The outage lasted a little over an hour, and to keep the home running, pulled about 10% of the energy from storage when all was said and done. We have a sub-panel off our inverter. That panel has our furnace, freezer, refrigerator and a several circuits throughout the house. Everything worked as designed!

The best part was the QUIET of our home. Where our neighborhood was filled with the sound of a "fleet of lawn mowers" as the gas generators kicked in, we had nothing but silence.

This is quite acceptable - it's nice to know that we will be fine if there is an outage of a longer duration; up to 9-10 hours.

Thank you. I feel like I am, as the saying goes, whistling past the grave yard. This outage lasted one hour, and yesterday I was able to clear the snow off about 2/3 of our panels (gravity, sun and above freezing temps helped a lot). Our worst outage 15 or so years ago lasted multiple days during a blizzard, and we had a good foot+ of snow to contend with. I have dubious concern about an outage of any like duration today. At best, our batteries will last about 9 hours. I have a secondary (EcoFlow) battery backup, but that would give us, perhaps, 5 hours of coverage. Contemplating investing in a portable gas generator. Much like the snow blower; something I may use once a year (last year, not at all), but something to have available... just in case.
