    UPS 12 Volt AGM Solar Battery's concern

    Hi there,
    I have this person locally who is selling a bunch of UPS battery's. I have looked online about using them for a solar setup but most people said to not use them
    The reason I'm asking now is because these are a bit different.

    These are the details of the battery:
    Specifications:

    * Nominal Voltage: 12-Volt/750 Watts/Cell @ 15 min. rateto 1.67 V.P.C.
    * Positive Plate: Pure lead, low-calcium, high-tin alloy

    * Negative Plate: Lead Calcium Alloy

    * Post Seal: Epoxy-sealed

    * Termina: Front access,1/4" - 20 threaded insert

    * Container/Cover: Flame-retardant, THT UL 94 V-0/>39% L.O.I.

    * Safety Vent: Low positive pressure, self-sealing w/ flame arrestor

    * Float Voltage: 2.25 v.p.c.

    The model is:
    Deka Unigy HR7500ET

    You need a model # to look up, to see if it is a float duty battery or a deep cycle battery

      Can I run a 12 volt 100W heater on 200W of solar or do I need a battery bank?

        if the heater's voltage matches the PV panel's voltage, sure. Check the voltage spec called Vmp on the back of the panel sticker. Voltage Max Power. if it's 16-20V, that's likely too high for your 12V heater for long term useage

            At least that is an AGM battery rather than GEL like some UPS batteries.
            But the only life rating in the specification is 10 years in float service. There is no graph or even mention of the number of cycles before 20% loss of capacity as a function of Depth Of Discharge (DOD). That means that it is unlikely to perform well in a situation where it will be discharged at night and recharged every day of its (possibly short) life.
            See https://www.sure-power.com/wp-conten...20HR7500ET.pdf for full specifications.

              How many cycles is a typical AGM battery.
              Also if that one is a no go, can I assume this one is a no go as well:
              lit.powerware.com/ll_download.asp?file=BAT04FXA_Oct08.pdf
              It says 260 cycles

                You can figure that a battery rated for 200 cycles will not even last a year with daily cycles. You want to see numbers more like 1000 or 2000 cycles or better as long as you do not go below 50% discharge. Typical FLA batteries do not like sitting for any length ot time (days) at less than full charge. AGM batteries are not quite as sensitive but it is still a good idea not to leave them discharged any longer than necessary.
