choice of crimpinger for 8 - 10 gauge wires & 40 amps or less & less than 10ft

3lb sledge hammer lug crimping tool or $40 POS 10-ton(??) hydraulic crimper thats in mm^2 sizes not AWG sizes.

For $80 TEMCo has a Hydraulic Cable Lug Crimper TH0006 - 5 US TON with AWG die sizes, but is 5 Tons enough, and can't I get by for the above specs with something cheaper???

Forget the hammer type, difficult to get a proper crimp. For 8ga, 5 ton should be enough (way better than a 3 lb sledge) i've got a 10 or 12 ton hydraulic crimper and it works great up to 1/O, larger than that, you need more power.
