  • Midnite Classic noise/location?

    Hey Everyone ,

progress has been slow on my project lately but have managed to get to the point of planning where to place my electrical components.

I am looking at the space above the engine compartment and am considering the pro's and con's. My biggest concern is noise. The charge controller will be about two feet from the head of my bed.

I am thinking that the fan should not be running when the sun is not shining. If I am correct then noise is a non issue.

What do you all think? Any downside that I have not considered?

    thanks.

    S.

The classic fans only come on when it's hot. It only gets hot when charging. It will be quiet at night. Daytime, it's loud when the fans kick in. I can hear it outside the closed door of my battery shed.

However, even at rest, at night, it produces some heat and is a bit warm. You should insure the internal backup coin battery is working, and you may want to power it off on warm nights to keep yourself cooler.

      Thank you.

That fits my expectations of the fan will only run during the day.

I had not considered that the heat could be enough to warm the room significantly and I like a cool bedroom. The cabinet is against an outside wall. I could insulate the cabinet and install a fresh air vent.

I have installed a few of these already but I didn't live with them. I did not noticed the heat.

Midnight says it's only a couple of watts (5) but I think it's more, chassis feels warm in an unheated outbuilding in winter.... Try it, see if it works for you
