  • Shielded wire & grounding

Hi, i have a couple of things that will be using "Shielded wire" & needs grounding/earthing. Should this be taken to the steel bodywork/chassis as it not quite earth???.

I take it, this is a mobile application, like an RV or a bus ?
You can tie the negative battery to chassis, but for high amp loads, don't simply run a + wire, run both - & + cables, sized to carry the load. Too many interfaces where painted chassis front frame is bolted to mid frame, bolted to painted rear frame. Or spots were rubber vibration isolators are used, and you won't get good current flow in the chassis.

Hi, thanks for getting back. Yes, it on an RV & it was the small shielded monitoring cable that comes from a shunt on the battery monitor & also the casing of a ham radio.

Best to tie both ends of cable shielding to ground (aka chassis)
