  • Displayed Amps on charge controller

I just completed my solar setup on a small travel trailer.

Two Renogy 100 watt panels, Renogy Adventurer charge controller, 10 gauge wire, two deep cycle marine batteries.

One question: when I first hooked it up the batteries were showing 11.7 volts as I hadn't plugged them in in a while. The charge controller indicated 9.9 amps for a while in direct sunlight. I was really impressed. Now we took it out for the weekend and the most it indicated was 4.5-6 amps even in direct sun.

Is that just because we weren't using that much electricity and the batteries never went below about 13.5 volts?

Or should the charge controller always show the actual amps available from the panes regardless of what it’s sending to the batteries?

Exactly. The fuller the batteries are the less current they will accept.
