  • Potting compound for junction box on back of panel

I picked up some panels cheap that had their wiring chewed up by squirrels, right up to the junction box on the panel.
I've been able to open the box, dig out the potting compound, and replace the cables.
Anyone know what kind of potting compound is normally used?
The stuff I dug out seemed to be just plain old Silicone Caulk.

Plain old silicone caulk, the kind that smells of vinegar while curing, gives off a corrosive vapor which will attack wiring to some extent, and it is electrically conductive when damp. For big copper wires it may not be a problem, for for tab wires and anything inside the panel itself it should not be used. There is a much more expensive silicone that cures differently, without the acid outgassing.
Not sure what to recommend though. Just sealing the box rather than filling it may work too if you use the right stuff.
