All mass production commercial panels, use low iron (high transmissive) tempered glass. There may be some specialty panels in odd sizes, or curved, that use liquid, but the cure time is way too long for mass production. I think a solar laminate machine has about a 5 min cycle time.
Look at the spec sheet for panels, 90% are using glass. [low iron tempered]Leave a comment:

"Virtually all panel manufacturers use low iron tempered glass."
where do you get that kind of info. I'm trying to find out which ones use liquid encapsulants vs eva, might be interesting.Leave a comment:

And you base that thought on ??? I didn't see the spam links that have already been removed from your posts, so we'll just keep an eye on you.Leave a comment:

Laminated glass? You are the only one around recommending that. Virtually all panel manufacturers use low iron tempered glass. No reason to go farther than that.

I would recommend laminated glass made by DuPont Polymers. Solar panel glass requires glass, that needs to meet the safety codes. DuPont Polymers provide glass with the recommended safety codes.

That's a fantastic price!
Could you get them to price the same glass at 58 x 26.75 inches?
I still have two panels to go, it might be worth a road trip

It's costing me $44.03 after tax for 39 1/2" x 39 1/2" - 1/4 inch thick, tempered low iron glass. My local glass company makes it to order for me.Leave a comment:

Find the Polymershapes branch closest to you - we offer plastic rod, sheet and tube. We also custom cut to your size specifications.
Homedepot is expensive, a dedicated plastic wholesaler like the ones listed above are about half the price.
You can get a 4x8 sheet of 1/4" lexan for around $140
Plexiglass/Acrylic is probably around $100 for the same sizeLeave a comment:

Where I get my glass
HEllo Longwolf I get my glass from the habitat store I think most every big city has one.I'm trying to find some reasonably priced glass for my panels.
They'll be going on a van so I don't have much choice about the size.
I'll need glass that's 57.25 by 26 inches.
I'm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and called a couple of places here.
I was quoted $175 for low iron tempered, $130 for regular tempered and a sheet of plex, near the right size, will cost about $100 from Home Depot.
Anyone have any ideas on where to get better prices for the size I need?Leave a comment:

i would suggest you to go to a glass company and ask them for laminated glass. i am getting around 60 dlls per each laminated glass of 39 1/2 X 39 1/2 with a 1/4 thickness for wind strength. i will keep on looking for better prices. if i find something cheaper i will contact you. i like in edinburg texasLeave a comment:
