polycarb is ok if you can afford it thick enough, maybe 3/8 inch to avoid sagging in real hot days. the 3 or 4mm stuff will just sag after a while for a large flat surface.
as for where to get glass. lets save the planet in small ways, go find clear toughened sliding doors that are going cheap at dumps or recycling places, if they survived this long they are gonna survive lots more. good strong aluminium frames, nicely sealed, with glass toughened to high standards, and less than 3% loss over low iron glass if you avoid any tinted glass.
Anyone got a nice easy way to mount 4 sliding doors to the top of me 30 degree pitch north facing roof?

High strength tempered glass can only be factory cut. Otherwise you get little glass pebbles when it shatters. So unless you can find a old sliding door, with the right size glass already, regular glass or plastic (the hazy yellow stuff after a year in the weather) is your choice .Leave a comment:

Where to get glass?
I'm trying to find some reasonably priced glass for my panels.
They'll be going on a van so I don't have much choice about the size.
I'll need glass that's 57.25 by 26 inches.
I'm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and called a couple of places here.
I was quoted $175 for low iron tempered, $130 for regular tempered and a sheet of plex, near the right size, will cost about $100 from Home Depot.
Anyone have any ideas on where to get better prices for the size I need?
