  • solar powered water pump kit for garden stream

    Hi,

I'm looking for a low cost, simple, solution for creating a 'stream' in our garden. I'm looking to pump a reasonable amount of water (similar to mains pressure perhaps) up a hill with a distance of about 20m, and a rise of about 5m.

I saw this video about a toyota prius pump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ojNID2jDz4, and how it can be hooked up to a 16V solar panel directly, but I'm not sure if this would be powerful/reliable enough for my needs - but it looks like it may be worth a shot.

Can somebody advise me on what kind of panel I should buy? It looks like there are lots of options on ebay for 40W - 200W, most of which look like they are 12V. How do I know what will be effective for running the prius pump, or any other low-cost pump somebody might recommend?

Any advice on a battery or tank setup would also be welcome.

    Many thanks.

Give us the specs the pump requires and we can state what size panel is needed to run the pump. Best if you can run just sun hours and not need batteries.

          How about this:
          http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A4BKUV4 (20000 litres per hour) (200W)
          or this

          http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A4BKUY6 (10000 litres per hour) (85W)

Is it this simple - I just need a panel to match the wattage of the pump? I think these pumps expect 240V. Will I need a transformer or something? Will it be a problem if the panel isn't producing max power?

          Thanks,

I looked up these pumps on ebay and from what I could tell they were either 12 or 14 volts. From your video it looks pretty obvious they are simply being hardwired. to a battery. I didn't see anywhere stating wattage or amperage draw though.
