3 buss bar cells will require 50%
3 buss bar cells will require 50% more tabbing wire and 50% more time to do the tabbing of those cells, adding cost and time. ALSO ADDING 50 % MORE CHANCE OF BREAKING THE CELL DUE TO THE ADDED HANDLING. Some of the 3-bb cells are more efficient and you must weigh the added cost and time to the slightly stronger cell. -

Stronger?
You answered your own query but outside of the additional work /material I doubt your conclusions

3 buss bars increase efficiency of the system, as cells get larger, buss bars have to be added. More metal = less resistance. And more shaded cell area that produces no powerPowerfab top of pole PV mount (2) | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||

Hey anyone got more info on the 2BB vs 3bb.
im looking to buy 6x6 cells, and i have 2bb or 3bb, same price $1.28 a piece. but need to know whats the difference (i know it will take more tabbing wire).
anyone? there isnt any info about it.
Take care.Comment

difference between 2 busbar and 3 busbar
2 busbar has larger area for light, higher electric resistance.
3 busbar has smaller area for light, and lower electric resistance.
Besides, 3 busbar cost more material and time in process.
finally, the price for 2 or 3 busbar is same.

and how about comparing the extra space of cell (where the 3rd tab goes) and taking the extra tab in the 2BB ? will 3BB always be better?
PROS CONS
2BB = more light more electric resistences
3bb= less light 1 tab more= more $, work and time.Comment

While most of the math for cell efficiency can be done in a Lab environment, probably the biggest place to determine if the cell will either gain or lose efficiency will be based on the Grade of the cell and how it was made. Also a DIY panel will never last as long as a manufactured panel because of the complexity of sealing the panel and the Grade of the cells being used. Most single cells are Grade B at best while manufactured panels use Grade A cells.
The gain or loss due to the 3 BB is nothing compared to the cell Grade and the DIY assembly. It's like being worried about the pennies when you are throwing the dollars out the window.Comment

2 busbar vs 3 busbar
Suneagle's answer is professional and complete. 3 or 2 busbars, Which is better, it depends. Unpon the experience of my business, panel plant buy 2 busbars priorly.Comment

Does anyone have a link to a good first DIY project? Just something to mess around with in the backyard to better understand the technology?Comment
