  • Scohttky diods

I have a 250watt solar panel max power current 8.39 amps short circuit current 9.02 amps i have a couple burnt out diodes
I want to replace the diodes on this panel with Scohttky diodes.
what size diodes will i need ? where can i purchase good quality Scohttky diodes.
anyone has an item number that would be great
    thanks Paul

Why would you need Scohttky Diodes? You do not need there speed or low forward voltage characteristics. They will work but why go to the expense and trouble when they serve no purpose in the application?

Hi sunking what do you suggest i use? very new to this. just thought the diodes they had in might not be of the best quality. and seeing that i have to replace them i should look for the best.
      thanks paul

Are the diodes located in the junction box of the panel, or embedded in the glazing ?

I retract my statement. Diodes are cheap now days, you can buy a 6-pack of Schocttky for less than $5. E-Bay and Amazon both have them. 15 amps should be more than enough. Look at the panels Imp rating and multiply by 1.5. Example Imp = 10 amps would be a 15 amp or higher diode. 15 amp is common.

Thanks for the help i removed one of the diodes it shows10 amps so will try to go to a 15 amp
i have enclosed a few photos is there a brand type i should be looking for?
the photo of the leads you will notice one end is burnt. any idea what might cause this
can panel be checked before the diodes is replaced?
            thanks again paul

what voltage rating i am looking for on these diodes?

schottky diodes have lower Vf when activated so they will run cooler than standard diodes.

Voltage rating - I'd look for 1.5x the panel Voc spec, I doubt it would see more than that. 50V ought to be plenty.
Say the diode activates, .5V @ 10A would be 5W dissipated, so you need enough of a heat sink, that the diode won't cook. That 5W is less than a standard diode would generate.
