I was looking at the possibility of running my pool pump off solar and batteries, but it soon added up to too much money. I then happened across DC brush-less pumps that are powered by a couple of solar panels and an MPPT controller (No batteries) for about AUD$900 - AUD$1450. I inspected a pump in operation, its speed varies depending on the amount of sun. That's what I will be doing.
