Due to hail damage (slight cracks but still fully functional), I'm having several panels replaced via home insurance. I asked the solar company if I could keep one of the panels, and they said they couldn't because of disposal laws. Is that true?

Hmm. Maybe those "green" panels have toxic metals in them.
More than likely the issue is what bruce has mentioned concerning an Insurance requirement to dispose of all replace solar hardware in a safe manor.
