My DIY solar panel page www.nazielono.net with a lot of photos and movies:)

    Dear DIY community,

I have created page with a lot of photos and movies about 'how to make solar panels'.

    Please see : www.nazielono.net .

The whole site is in polish, but you can click every position in left menu to see content. There are about 160 photos (you can click evey photo to see it in high resolution) and 30 movies !!!

On page I am describing my whole diy pv story and how I made my panels from A-to-Z.

You can also use google 'translate' button whitch should appear in bottom right of the page oraz use google translate http://translate.google.com/ service to browse live translated page.

    Thanks,
    Arthur.

            Hi, to solder one wafer (6' x 6' = 156mm x 156mm ,2 paths) it takes 54cm.

My solder iron is 1.5mm, shoud be good to drive 8A because that can give my cells (potentialy). I buy solder iron and wafers from the same seller so it shoud work good.

            Thanks,
            Arthur.

I need a little support from DIY PV community.

I am planning to have two 48V 8A solar instalations and accumulate power in one battery bank.

Those two solar instalations will have differend directions to the sun.

              What would you suggest ?

Will I need two mppt charge controllers (one for every instalation) ? Does those controllers will not disturb each other when operating on battery bank ??
For example, one controller will discover that it should not charge because there is a lot of power, but it is not true power, it is power from second charge controller because it gets good sun in this moment.

I think that situation when one controller can charge but stops because of misunderstanding what is going on is very big wasting of power !!!

Other way is to connect my instalation serially and make 2*48V input. Is it good idea ?
I don't know if it is safe to put so high voltage thru all of my PV panels. Three 48V instalations would drive 150V thru every single cell !!

Or maybe should I connect them (solar instalations) parallely ?? But in this case this one instalation with good sun and higher voltage will charge this second one solar instalation instead of battery bank, do I understand it correctly ??

              Thank you for your support.
              Arthur.

What is the voltage of your battery bank?
If you don't need to downconvert PV array voltage to battery voltage, then you can use a plain PWM controller if you like.

If you are using 2 panels in different directions, a single PWM controller could work, but if you are using MPPT, you should have each array on its own controller, or the controllers sometimes get confused

Do you have any diodes built into these panels, for shadows or reverse bias ?

With home built insulation and panels, I would avoid the high voltage (150V) option

I live in Poland and we have many days without good sun light so I will over-voltage my instalation. Then in sunny days I don't want to waste power so MPPT charge controller is only way .

I can have any voltage that I want, I just finishing building my new idea. It is 'solar kit' and allow you to build panels in 10 minutes. Count of cells and electrical parameters is fully reconfigurable.

For 48V battery bank I am planning to have 55-60V of solar instalation (two instalation, every one gives 55-60V 8A).

As I understand diodes will block voltage to go to cells so I can have those two instalation connected parallely. If one will have higher voltage that will be no problem for this second one, right ?

What about interaction between two charge controllers ?? How much will they disturb each other work ?

When you have light, you get .5V output per cell, Amps increase as light gets brighter. (not voltage)

                    \\\

2 charge controllers, of same model, are fine in parallel. They will not track each other perfectly, but will be pretty close. One will come out of Bulk before the other one does. Not to worry.

So I see that there can be two problems :
                      - when one controller will give power and second one will also give akkus can get to much energy in one time
                      - when one controller will give power and second one will do akkus probe and receive information that it should go to sleep mode because akkus are fine (and true is that there are not)

I am feeling that I don't have experience here. I find those two problems big.

In first one we can give to much powert to akkus and destroy them after few years.

In second one when collected every energy is important ... second controller states that akkus are fine and stops charging.

Are ther any solutions for that ?

How other people will connect ther two or three 48V pv instalations to one 48V battery bank ??

                      Thank you
                      Arthur.
