Cell or Panel Failure
With all the things that can go wrong, I was thinking how to periodically check that all is
in order. With good sun this season, and 15% extra panels, I have been checking that
each inverter reached some clipping during the day. It can't with one of its 3 strings out.
Come winter I may not have enough sun for that method. If both inverters show similar
daily peaks, should be OK. If one is down, need to look for a weak string. I'm thinking
then to go out some time without clouds, to at least get a steady reading. A clamp on
DC ammeter could verify, all three strings are putting on similar current, or one is weak.
Then the harder part is to find the bad panel. Probably have to unplug them all on that
string, as well as open the combiner fuse. Then test panels one by one. Either a simple
short circuit current test, or use my load tester. Bruce RoeComment
