There will be more photos when I will finish first panel and start second one.

Now I have troubles with Superior Essex, they want me to buy minimum 7x Syglards184. OK, I can buy it, but then they want me to create credit line...I don't want to - I can pay using credit card or making money transfer. I don't understand them .

I wonder if they cancel my new order (seven Sylgards 184) and find new problems.

They have very very good price ($36.87)! If anybody know better or similar shop, please share.

                Thanks

I'm finding places that ship to Poland and will sell just 1, but they are a little over $50/each plus $20 for shipping.

Superior Essex said : minimum order $250 for international buyer and $100 for local (US) clients.
My friend check them and siad that with shipping cost they prices are higher than his local store and picking Sylgards by his own car.

Another place that I found is http://ellsworth.com/display/product...16&Tab=Vendors but you have to buy 28x Sylgard to get price around $37.

I thought that Sylgard is that what I need but since I need two (to laminate and protect standard 100W panel) I started to think about other possibilities.

Thats why now I will start new thread "If no Sylgard 184 then what ?) to ask people what they are using (silicone, rubber, resin, ...) and what are their experiences.

We need something to build cheap DIY solar panels and everything cost : solar glass, aliminum frame, wafers (cells), wires. Last thing is backing. For my first panel I choosed polycarbonate bowl but it is also expensive. All other panels I want to 'laminate' somehow.

EDIT : 'LAMINATING : If no Sylgard 184 (or 182) then what ??' thread http://www.solarpaneltalk.com/showth...=6052#post6052

That amount is still alot but what next? I have been wandering about some people say they put tape in between the cell on the glass before they cover it. What happens when the tape gets real, hot and shrinks up or melts. I have ordered some special tape to try this. That is put tape in between the cells on the glass. This will be the first time that I have try ed this. I'm still looking for something cheaper that works .I have found a item but they don't sell it to the public. It's called Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer ( EPDM)

Maybe in the future they will sell to people like us. If it's not to expensive.

                              Good Luck Wayne

Don't give up. Please search and find another EPDM, use it and share your thoughts.

Since I realized (yesterday) that Sylgard is too expensive I ordered 7 silicones (tempearature range -40 - 160 Celcious degress) and I will try it.

This will be experiment and I know I can loose all 36 cells but what to do ?
We have to search and find another cheap way to build lightweight, cheap panels (without a backing).

Single silicone will cost me ~$3, and whole seven will cost me around $22.

It will be hard but still a little bit elastic and I hope it will glue to glass so strong so it could keep wafers inside.

If you know any disadvantages please share because I don't want loose so many wafers, money and time .

Maybe other DIY panel makers will respond on my other thread and we will find some kind of replacement for Sylgard184.
