Sunny Boy Inverter in Waiting Mode on very bright sunny day

    Hello,
We have a few month old inverter that has been working great. Today it is waiting mode in full sun. I can't seem to find any information, other than it is trying to connect to the grid. Could this be a problem with the Inverter or the contrator's installation? It's been working for a month since the final inspections.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks.

First make sure that there are no open breakers, fuses, or disconnects between the inverter and your main panel. Also check the voltage of your grid power. It may be outside the inverter's tolerances.

I had the same problem. It was caused by the grid voltage exceeding 253 Volts (Australia). I rang the power company and they fixed the voltage straight away. Another problem a friend had was that the line impedance exceeded 2 Ohms due to some dodgy wiring. This caused the inverter to cut out under or near full load, then startup again and 30 seconds later cutout. On the SMA LCD display there is usually an error message displayed in a cryptic form. Download the manual for your inverter and it will explain the meaning of the error.
