I am going to install myself and I was wondering if I could store the panels outside prior to installation. If so how long can I store outside for.

I believe solar panels are made to be weather proof and can be used or stored (face up) outside for decades.
Just make sure they are protected from possible falling objects and preferably tied down or stored away from strong winds.

Solar panels are not designed to be immersed in water, they can and do get wet but storing them in standing water is not a good practice. So put them up on blocks store them vertical and cover them with plastic.
