I hadn't noticed this before - sorry! I will send him an email that you want to make contact.

The email address is no longer valid

Try sending him a personal message (often abbreviated PM). Also check out this article on internet forums:

Yes, lot of people retire here, and enjoy our beer Presidente :P.

I dont know how is Puerto Plata situation for stoling goods, but you need to think in a system to secure the solar panel not to be stoled! Thats the first idea, because as you know, you panels can be stoled some day to another.

Second, there are panels that already reaching the 11 Amps per panels, and for what I see the project you are looking (air conditioner, fridge) you need to buy this kind of panels. [Mod: Advertising link removed.] Also your location makes cheaper to ship to Puerto Plata, thanks for the near of the ocean an access, do you use own shipping methods or you use a Currier?

Your wife being dominican doesnt mean cheap rates, but if she have influence with the goverment, thats another thing. There is a law here that solar panels or green solutions are 0% tax, but "I dont" see that is being implemented.

If you want a better view of your solar project, FIRST you need to copy the watts that all the electronics that you will use (most of this info is in the label), so you can have the idea of how many watts are going to be used.

I live in Puerto Plata but am building in the mountains in Jarabacoa near all the rivers and waterfalls with views of the mountains and valleys. One hour to the beach+1/2 hour to Santiago+2 hours to Santo Domingo. I have property that will allow my house to face and direction. I want to berm on 3 sides and have the covered patiop face the best direction. I understand by building from scratch I can complete the most energy efficiant as possible therefore cutting down on the size and cost of the system. System+batteries+generator!!
I can buy here and ship without import tax because my wife is Dominican and I am a permanant resident. DR is paradise but like all paradises it has its drawbacks. No electricity/no problem--if I can get this right. I am retiring in 4 years at 60 and am looking forward to sitting on my patio and enjoying the view/cold beer from the hot tub.
Is there an general estimation of the size/cost of the system. Will have frige/freezer(everything bought here new and energy efficiant) TV/stereo/lap top on all the time. Hot tub/washer+gas dryer/hot water heater.
I am fortunate that I can do everything right and from scratch. Thanks to the Veterans Admin, I can affors the cost and shipping and will end up enjoying paradise and not using candels.
Thanks for the help. Expect the education will be an ongoing process and look forward to the knowledge.

Eddy, what part of Dominican Republic do you live? I understand your frustration, because electricity here SUCKS. Also buy solar panels locally is really expensive, so if you have a way to buy it outside and bring it to Santo Domingo is better.

I can help you out with the Berm house and earth covered too.
